for the second straight year. this after the ravens beat the broncos 38-to-35 yesterday. we now know.the atlanta falcons will face off against the san francisco 49ers next sunday. kron 4's reggie kumar tells us some niner's fans wanted seattle to win today, because the nfc champioship game would have been played at the stick instead of in atlanta. the falcons/seahawks game was a nail bitter. no one shangai kelly's saloon in san francisco knew who was going to win until the very end. the weekend box office numbers are in. to miguel marquez, he's 60 miles north of atlanta. miguel, we saw the picture here of this tornado. tell me what you're seeing on the ground right now. >> a wide swath of damage through adairsville, it looks like, for the most part. there is a hotel that has been shredded by this storm. there is a plant that makes heavy machinery shredded by this tornado. there are several businesses along the adairsville highway, just off i-75 that have been damaged. there are power lines down throughout the area. trees are down, smashed into cars, trailers overturned, trailers damaged as well. we have seen a couple of neighborhoods where there is fairly significant damage to trailer homes. not clear where that person died, but it is not very far from where i am right now. it is still raining very hard here. the rain has been consistent. it has let up just a little bit. the other thing that is interesting, we left atlanta about 45 minutes ago, maybe an hour ago. the temperature was about 66 degrees there. it has dropped to 58 here. we're getting into the zone where the temperature changes and it is a dange

for today. in the southeast we're going to look for dry weather, cool, 52 in atlanta, 53 in memphis. but, of course we head north, and that's where the bitter chill will be. we'll continue to see strong lake-effect snows continuing. cleveland, only 18 today, 16 in pittsburgh. new york city, we're looking for a high of around 21. only 18 in boston. a look at montreal won't get above zero, forecast minus 6 there. across the midwest, especially across chicago, not a lot better. a high of 24. minneapolis, it's only going to be near 8 degrees. you can see the warmer weather across the plains. again, it's been pretty quiet in the midwest, but a new storm headed in and rain in portland and seattle and snow in the mountains. i'm david bernard, cbs news, miami. >>> well, this morning the house is expected to vote on a temporary extension of the nation's debt limit. the republican-sponsored bill would extend the u.s. borrowing limit for three months. without the extension the u.s. would be unable to pay its bills, including unemployment benefits and social security. the white

of our cbs miami station wfor is following the cold track. >>> in atlanta we may start with freezing rain, but by this afternoon we're looking at a high of 48. that's all going to change over to liquid. if we travel north of there through the carolinas into the atlantic, d.c., as far north as philadelphia, light to moderate snow is expected today. mainly one to two inches in most spots. this is not going to be major storm and is going to move out by the evening hours. highs in the mid-20s from new york to boston. cleveland after some morning snows will see an afternoon high temperature of 20 degrees. across the midwest it stays cold. and chicago at 29. 16 in minneapolis. dry across the plains. and out west it's still raining. in fact, another rainy day in los angeles, and that rain extends all the way along the coast to portland and seattle. so, again, light snows in the east, but, again, that's probably not going to be a major storm and will end by this evening. i'm david bernard for the cbs news in miami. >>> the senate is expected to vote monday on a $50.50 bi

the atlanta area. that could mean some travel delays for the big airport there. if we follow the front to north, we're looking at flood watches for a good part of the northeast, strong to severe thunderstorms possible this evening and tonight as that front approaches the coastline. on the opposite side of that, we're looking at cold air spilling into the midwest. the rain we saw yesterday in chicago is going to end as a little bit of light snow with temperatures in the upper 30s. very cold in the plains with highs in the teens and 20s. out west it looks pretty quiet especially in southern california. not bad, l.a. 65. look for rain in the northwest. seattle and portland kind of dreary and temperatures in the 40s. i'm david bernard for cbs news, miami. >>> overseas now, a police inspector says penny pinching may have caused that deadly nightclub fire in brazil. at least 234 people, mostly students, died in sunday morning's file. the inspector says the band used cheap outdoor flares for their pyrotechnic display instead of the much more expensive indoor flares. i

occasionally. no accumulation expected. still 60 in atlanta. here comes that cold wedge of air getting a lot colder by the end of the week. 38 in chicago, 26 in minneapolis today. and above this cold front that's where some of your colder air is going to be behind the front, i should say. and then another system, another burst of energy that comes through the southeast brings a chance of snow actually into places like atlanta by thursday. something to keep an eye on. lighter snow possible into tennessee and even back through mississippi and alabama. so we'll be watching that one closely here at the weather channel. 42 degrees by thursday in atlanta, nearly 20 degrees colder. 28 in chicago. only 17 in minneapolis. we're still pretty mild as the air builds back in across the southern plains. 55 in dallas, 60 in houston. how about 73 in los angeles. another clipper system moves through on friday. we're quieting down across much of the east but that will bring light scattered snow across the great lakes and into the upper midwest here. that will be the trend on saturday also. looking dry for the

in atlanta. more like something you would see in spring. snow showers on the back end of this system on the western lakes. that's on wednesday. we'll have a se voer threat continuing through the southeast wednesday and includes the atlanta area. cold air starts to filter into the high plains, tuesday and wednesday gets much, much colder for you. we hold on to some of the mild air here into the southeast and across the east coast. and by thursday, scattered snow showers for the interior northeast. colder air over the ohio valley and the northeast. meanwhile, it's quieter in the west. punxsutawney feel, 28 degrees roughly there around the philly area. wick up with al 5:30 a.m. weekday mornings on the weather channel. . but first, let's bring in my colleague, victor blackwell, who's back in atlanta. victor, i know you have some of the latest news on some of the other stories that we're watching this morning. >> indeed, randi. thanks. we're starting with this really bizarre story about the notre dame linebacker, manti te'o. in an interview, he denied having any part in the fake girlfriend story, except being the victim of a cruel hoax. te'o spoke with espn's jeremy schaap off-camera about the ordeal. >> i would say during the entire two hours that we spoke, he was completely composed, he betrayed no nervousness, he had maybe full command of the story, suggests that it's a story, rather than the truth. but he had a full command of everything that i posed. >> te'o told espn that a man named ronaiah tuiasosopo admitted to being behind this hoax. now, he showed them a tweet, supposedly an apology from tuiasosopo. cnn has not confirmed the tweet or tuiasosopo's involvement. we went to tuiasosopo's home, but the person there would not comment. >>> let's stick with sports. in part two of lance armstrong's inter
